Texas Speed Cam Tune Center

Chopacabracam tune.Matched to your build.

The Texas Speed Chopacabra is popular because it delivers the sound and power truck owners want. Making it start cleanly, idle in gear and drive correctly still requires the tune to match the engine generation, exact cam, controller and installed hardware.

  • Texas Speed cam-specific tuning
  • GM LS, EcoTec3 and supported HEMI
  • Custom, Base and downloadable paths

Step 2 · Build Your Chopacabra Tune

Match The Platform. Match The Cam. Build The Tune.

After identifying the engine family, select the exact vehicle, Chopacabra camshaft, transmission, drivetrain and installed hardware. The live builder separates GM and HEMI combinations and routes the build to the correct tune or downloadable file.

Tuning device required: You must have an HP Tuners MPVI2, MPVI3, or MPVI4, or an EFI Live device supported for your vehicle. J.R. Jones Racing LLC does not currently support RTD or TDN devices. RTD/TDN support is planned for the future. Check device requirements. Need an interface? You can add an HP Tuners MPVI4 to your tune at the bottom of this builder if you would like to purchase one through J.R. Jones Racing LLC. Vehicle credits are sold separately.

Important — Please Read How Remote Tuning Works

Remote tuning has to be done one step at a time. It is not always as simple as sending one file and being finished. A lot of things can affect how fast the process goes: the condition of the vehicle, mechanical issues, whether the data log shows the issues, how many modifications the vehicle has, how quickly we can communicate back and forth, my current workload, and any unexpected problems we run into along the way.

J.R. Jones Racing LLC is an owner-operated, one-person business. I am the only person tuning, reviewing data logs, answering phone calls and text messages, and helping customers. I also do all of the work behind the scenes to build and maintain everything we use, including the website, customer portal, servers, coding, programming, integrations, and continued development. I personally handle every tune. Later revisions and the overall tuning process depend on the work involved, customer feedback and current workload; they have no fixed completion deadline. The Revision 1 guarantee applies only to delivery of the initial file after JRJ receives your stock read. It does not guarantee a completion date for the entire tuning process or a deadline for later revisions. Contact JRJ through the Tune Portal if the promised initial delivery is missed; it will be reviewed as a service issue.

Please read the complete remote tuning checklist and process before you begin. We have to work forward one step at a time. That has proven to be the safest and most efficient way to do this. If we skip steps or try to change too many things at once, it can slow everything down and make us work backward.

Revision 1 — Start and IdleRev 1 is always about getting the vehicle to start and idle correctly. We need to make sure the start and idle are stable before we begin adding all of the other changes. If you have different injectors, those are included in Rev 1 because they affect how the vehicle starts and runs. Converter changes, tire size, gear changes, transmission changes, and the other tables come after we know the vehicle starts and idles correctly. Flash Rev 1, record a data log, upload it, and let me know how the vehicle acted.
Revision 2 — Add the Other ChangesOnce the start and idle are stable, we can move forward and start adding the basics for the rest of your modifications. This is where I begin working on things like the converter, tire size, gear changes, transmission changes, and general drivability. Flash Rev 2, record another data log, upload it, and send me your feedback.
Revision 3 and Later — Start Dialing It InFrom here, we keep working through it. I look at the data log and your feedback, make the next adjustments, and send the next revision. You flash it, drive it, record another data log, and upload it. We rinse and repeat as needed within the revisions included with your tune.

Step 3 · Understand The Tune Paths

Sound is easy.
Drivability takes work.

What the tune addresses

Clean up the behavior.
Keep the attitude.

A properly matched Chopacabra tune should preserve the cam’s character while improving the software-side issues created by its changed airflow and torque behavior.

01

Starts Then Dies

Cold and hot startup airflow, cranking behavior and the transition into running airflow.

02

Surge / Hunting

Idle airflow, idle spark and the closed-loop control behavior that can make RPM wander.

03

Stalls Into Gear

In-gear airflow, desired idle, converter load and supported transmission behavior.

04

Rich / Lean Trims

MAF and VE behavior, injector data, exhaust leaks and the cam’s low-speed reversion.

05

Slow RPM Return

Throttle follower, airflow decay and torque behavior that can make RPM hang during deceleration.

06

Poor Shift Feel

Supported shift strategy, torque delivery, tire size, axle ratio and converter changes.

07

AFM / MDS / VVT

The tune must agree with the lifters, cam gear, phaser, limiter or lockout that is physically installed.

08

Mechanical Problems

A tune cannot repair vacuum leaks, incorrect cam timing, failed lifters, low fuel pressure or installation faults.

Chopacabra
FAQ.

Use the Tune Builder when the exact cam version, engine generation or hardware status is not clear.

Back To Tune Builder
Can JRJ tune a Texas Speed Chopacabra cam?

Yes, for supported vehicles and controllers. Provide the stock read, exact cam part number or cam card and complete hardware details.

Is every Chopacabra camshaft the same?

No. Texas Speed offers platform-specific versions. Do not choose a tune using only the Chopacabra name.

Do I need an aftermarket converter?

That depends on the exact cam, transmission, vehicle weight, gearing and intended use. Send the converter brand, part number and advertised stall if one is installed.

Does DOD, AFM, MDS or VVT need to be deleted?

The tune must match the hardware actually installed. State whether cylinder-deactivation hardware is retained or mechanically removed and whether VVT is retained, limited, locked or deleted.

Can I buy an instant Chopacabra .HPT file?

Only when the product exactly matches the vehicle, engine, controller, operating system, camshaft and listed hardware. Otherwise choose a tune built from your stock read.

Will tuning fix a failed lifter or bad cam installation?

No. Tuning cannot repair failed hardware, incorrect mechanical timing, vacuum leaks, fuel-pressure problems or installation faults.

Keep the chop. Fix the behavior.

Make it sound mean.Make it drive clean.

Match the real engine, cam and hardware first. JRJ will route the build to the correct Full Custom, Base or exact-match downloadable tune.
