Order Your Tune & Set Up Your Portal

Build your remote-tuning order, confirm your vehicle details, upload your original read file, and keep tune downloads and datalog feedback together in your JRJ Tune Portal.

Written instructions
Written instructions10 steps

Before you start

  • The year, make, model, engine, camshaft and modification details for your vehicle.
  • Access to the email address you will use at checkout. Keep your order number so you can find the correct order later.
  • Your vehicle's original As Found read saved as an HP Tuners .hpt file when you are ready to finish portal setup. The separate VCM Editor lesson shows how to read and save it.
  1. Build your tune

On the JRJ homepage, scroll to the tune builder. Choose your year, make, model, engine and camshaft. Select Stock Cam if that is what is installed. Add the transmission, drivetrain and PCM/controller details you know; use the offered I don't know choice when needed.

  2. Choose the service and installed modifications

Choose the level of tuning support you need, then select the modifications fitted to your vehicle. Use the service description to compare Full Custom and Base Tune. Add an MPVI4 if needed and available. Review your build summary and the current total before adding the order to your cart.

  3. Check your cart and complete checkout

Confirm the selected service, vehicle and add-ons in your cart. At checkout, use an email address you can access and enter your own billing details. Keep the checkout email and order number for portal access.

  4. Open your customer portal

On the order confirmation page, open the generated customer portal link when it is ready. To return later, use My Portal with the email and order details for that purchase. Keep your individual portal link private.

  5. Confirm Vehicle & Mods

Check the vehicle and engine/cam information imported from your order. For each purchased modification, choose the actual part or setup installed and add useful brand, part-number or size details. Include the correct gear ratio or tire changes when applicable. Confirm the information only when it accurately describes your vehicle.

  6. Read and sign the service agreement

Read the agreement in the portal. If you agree, select its acknowledgment and type your full legal name as requested. An abbreviation is rejected in the demonstration, so enter your complete name.

  7. Upload your original read

Under Upload the Original Tune File, choose the As Found .hpt file read from this exact vehicle. Add any current issues or useful notes, then select Finish Setup & Send to JRJ. Wait for the confirmation that the agreement is saved and the read file is uploaded. Keep your original file safe.

  8. Read the instructions for your first revision

When JRJ delivers your initial tune, the portal shows Latest Tune Ready to Download. Read the instructions attached to that revision before proceeding. Select Download Latest Tune and complete the portal's acknowledgment/verification prompts. Each revision can have different instructions; follow the ones delivered for your vehicle.

  9. Upload the log for the tune you actually tested

After completing Jason's requested logging steps, open Upload Datalog. Choose the revision that was in the vehicle when you recorded the log. Select your VCM Scanner log file, describe what the vehicle was doing, and confirm that the log belongs to this vehicle and selected tune. Do not upload an Editor .hpt tune file into the log field.

  10. Send the log and wait for confirmation

Select Upload VCM Scanner Log and keep the page open until the success message appears. If the vehicle is running well, say so in the required description rather than leaving it blank. JRJ can then review the log and advise the next step within your purchased service's revision allowance.

When you finish

Your order, confirmed build, agreement, original read, delivered revisions and uploaded feedback are organized in the same Tune Portal.

Need a hand with this step?

I cannot finish setup.
Check the required build confirmations, agreement acknowledgment, full legal name and original .hpt file. Follow the portal's message for anything still missing.
I cannot upload a datalog yet.
The demonstration opens datalog upload after intake is complete and the first revision is delivered. Check your current portal instructions and status.
Which revision should I select for my log?
Select the tune actually installed when that log was recorded. Do not select the newest revision just because it is newest. If unsure, use the offered unknown choice or contact JRJ.
The log upload asks for a description.
Describe symptoms, when they occur and any changes since the last log. If there are no problems, write that. The file alone does not explain everything the vehicle is doing.

About this walkthrough: This lesson covers ordering and portal use. It does not demonstrate flashing the vehicle or recording a complete datalog. A delivered first revision is an initial tune, which is different from the separate Base Tune service. Your purchased service and revision limits still apply.

HP Tuners Account, Device & Credits

Create your HP Tuners account, register your MPVI interface, choose credits for the correct device, and use Resync Interface in VCM Editor.

Written instructions
Written instructions8 steps

Before you start

  • An internet connection and access to the email address you will use for your HP Tuners account.
  • VCM Editor installed on your computer, your compatible MPVI interface, and its USB cable. Connect the interface when retrieving its verification code or resyncing.
  • The serial number from your own MPVI interface. Confirm the correct credit type and quantity for your vehicle before purchasing; the demonstration quantity is an example.
  1. Open My Account

Go to the HP Tuners website and select My Account at the top right. Choose Sign up now if you need an account. If you already have an account, sign in and continue to My Devices.

  2. Verify your email and create the account

Enter your own email address and select Send a code. Retrieve the code from your email, enter it in the signup form and select Verify. Choose and confirm your password, enter your first and last name, complete the I am not a robot check, and select Create.

  3. Open My Devices

When signed in, open the account menu at the top right and select My Devices. In Import your device, enter the serial number from the back of your MPVI interface.

  4. Retrieve the verification code in VCM Editor

Connect the MPVI to your computer by USB and open VCM Editor. Choose Help, then MPVI2/3/4 Verification Code. Use the serial number and verification code supplied for your connected interface. Copy your own verification code.

  5. Import your interface into your account

Return to My Devices on the HP Tuners website. Paste the verification code into Verification ID / Application Key, check the serial number belongs to your interface, and select Import. Notes are optional. Confirm the device is added before buying credits for it.

  6. Choose the correct credits and device

On the HP Tuners website, open Products, then Credits. Jason selects Universal Credits for the MPVI2/3/4 workflow; the original MPVI uses a different credit option. Open the appropriate credit product, select your registered device serial number and enter the quantity you need.

  7. Review the purchase and complete checkout

Select Add to cart. Check the device serial number and quantity, then proceed to checkout and complete your purchase on HP Tuners. The video pauses before payment; use your own billing details to finish the order.

  8. Resync the connected interface

After the purchase is confirmed, allow a little time for it to process. Keep the MPVI connected to your computer, open VCM Editor, and choose Help, then Resync Interface. Follow the dialog and use Retry when needed. Check the reported credit balance after the resync completes. If it asks you to connect an MPVI, check the USB connection before retrying.

When you finish

Once registration, payment and resync are confirmed, your interface is linked to your HP Tuners account with its purchased credits available for the next vehicle-specific tuning steps.

Need a hand with this step?

I cannot verify my email.
Use the email address entered in the signup form and retrieve its verification code. Finish Verify before completing the remaining signup fields. If no code arrives, check your spam folder or the available resend option.
VCM Editor asks me to connect an MPVI.
The interface must be plugged into the computer for the verification-code and resync steps. Check that it is connected by USB, then try the relevant command again.
My device is not available when I select credits.
Return to My Devices and confirm your interface was imported using the correct serial number and verification code. Select that same serial number for the credit purchase.
My newly purchased credits are not showing.
Confirm the purchase completed for the correct device, allow a little time for processing, and resync the connected interface. If they still do not appear, ask HP Tuners or JRJ for help before buying the same credits again.
How many credits should I buy?
The quantity shown is an example. Confirm the requirement for your exact vehicle and controller with HP Tuners or JRJ before purchasing.

About this walkthrough: This lesson covers account signup, device registration, credit selection and the Resync Interface controls. Payment and a completed credit-balance update are not shown. Buying credits is separate from licensing a specific vehicle/controller and does not flash a tune; vehicle licensing and writing a tune are separate steps.

Read & Save Your Tune

Connect your HP Tuners interface, read the calibration currently in your vehicle and save the .hpt file so you can upload it to JRJ. Jason demonstrates the process with an MPVI4 and a GM controller on a bench harness.

Written instructions
Written instructions6 steps

Before you start

  • Your tuning laptop with HP Tuners VCM Editor installed.
  • Your compatible MPVI interface and USB cable. The video uses an MPVI4 with a USB-C connection.
  • Your HP Tuners account and device registration completed. Jason refers to account and device registration as a separate setup guide.
  • An internet connection if VCM Editor requests one for your vehicle or controller.
  1. Connect the MPVI and your laptop

Locate your vehicle's OBD-II port and connect the MPVI. Connect the USB cable between the MPVI and your tuning laptop. Jason demonstrates these connections on a bench harness; follow the on-screen instructions for your vehicle.

  2. Open VCM Editor and choose Read Vehicle

Open VCM Editor and click the Read Vehicle toolbar button. In the Vehicle Reader window, click Gather Info and wait for the available controller information to appear.

  3. Choose Read Entire

Set the read option to Read Entire for each applicable controller section. Your vehicle may show additional modules such as the TCM or FSCM. Jason explains that JRJ needs the complete read from the available controllers; this example shows a single GM controller.

  4. Read the vehicle and let cleanup finish

Click Read. Follow any on-screen instructions and leave the interface and USB cable connected throughout the read and cleanup. Wait for the process to finish before saving. Part of the wait is fast-forwarded in the video, so your read may take longer.

  5. Save a clearly named As Found file

When Save As opens, choose a folder you can find again. Name the file using your vehicle's year, make and model followed by As Found. Keep the Tune (*.hpt) file type and click Save. Jason uses Downloads in this example.

  6. Keep the original read and continue to the upload guide

Keep your As Found .hpt file safe. It records the calibration that was in the vehicle when you read it; if the vehicle was already tuned, this file may already contain changes. Next, use the portal-upload guide to send the saved file to JRJ.

When you finish

You have a saved As Found .hpt file ready to upload to JRJ, plus a copy to keep for your records. This read does not establish that the file is a factory-stock calibration.

Need a hand with this step?

The interface or controller does not appear
Check the MPVI-to-vehicle and USB-to-laptop connections, then follow the instructions shown by VCM Editor. If Gather Info still cannot identify the controller, send JRJ the exact on-screen message before continuing.
Your Vehicle Reader window has more controller sections
Different vehicles can show additional modules. Check the read option in each applicable section and use Read Entire as Jason explains. If you are unsure which controllers to include, ask JRJ before starting the read.
The read takes longer than the video
Jason fast-forwards the wait in this recording. Allow the read and cleanup to finish and keep everything connected. If VCM Editor reports an error, save the message and contact JRJ for help.
You cannot find the saved file for upload
Look in the folder you selected in Save As, using your vehicle's name and the .hpt file extension. The example uses Downloads. Keeping a dedicated tuning folder can make the file easier to find later.

About this walkthrough: This video covers reading and saving the calibration currently in the controller. The physical example uses a bench harness. It does not demonstrate HP Tuners account registration, software installation, portal upload, vehicle flashing or datalogging. Credits are discussed for writing later; this guide is the read-and-save step. As Found means the current calibration, which may already be modified if the vehicle has been tuned.

Written instructions
Written instructions5 steps

Before you start

  • VCM Scanner installed on your tuning computer.
  • Access to your vehicle so you can connect VCM Scanner.
  • The channel names Jason has asked you to include.
  1. Open VCM Scanner and connect

Open VCM Scanner and connect to your vehicle. After it connects, select Stop Scanning before adding channels.

  2. Open Add Channel

In the Channels pane on the left, select the gear with the green plus sign. This opens Channel Selector.

  3. Find the requested channel

Type a channel name from Jason's instructions into the search bar at the top. The video uses misfire, injector and shift-related channels as examples.

  4. Double-click to add it

Double-click the matching channel under the correct vehicle controller to add it. A light blue highlight means the channel is already added. Repeat for the other channels Jason requested; do not add every search result just because it contains the same word.

  5. Check your list, then continue to logging

Close Channel Selector and check the Channels list for the requested entries. When you are ready, continue to the recording and upload guide to record a log, save it and send it through your Tune Portal. Those actions are the next step and are not demonstrated in this video.

When you finish

Your requested channels are added and ready for your next datalog.

Need a hand with this step?

The Add Channel button is unavailable.
Connect VCM Scanner to the vehicle, then select Stop Scanning. Jason explains that the gear-plus button becomes available after this.
A channel is already highlighted light blue.
It is already added. Move on to the next requested channel.
I cannot find the channel or need help setting this up.
Ask Jason through your existing JRJ support conversation. He can arrange a remote support session and set up the channels on your computer.

About this walkthrough: Add the channels Jason requests for your vehicle. The examples in this video are not a required list for every customer. Recording, saving and uploading a log are covered separately.
